Something I've been thinking about adding to this song-flinging community for a while is TV soundtracks. The songs you hear in the shows you watch. I mean, how often have you not tuned into this-or-that TV show and at some point told yourself "wow, this song is snappin'" / "wow, horrible moment for this song" or the likewise? Sensitive for music & its timing as I am, I do it on an almost daily basis.

If this were to be done, I'd try to have the songs featured in the most recent episode of [insert show] up in this community the day, or two days after the actual episode aired.

But here lies the question(s): what show do you want me soundtracking?

Poll #1376435 Soundtracking [what] TV show?

I want this/these TV show soundtracked...

Gossip Girl
One Tree Hill
If there's an "other" show you really want me to post the soundtracking of, just post the name of the show in a comment and we'll tally 'em up.

Also, somewhen when I wasn't looking, we got over a 100 members! WOHOO! You are all sonorously awesome.

I chose LOST because the episodes feature so little music.

Fun fact: One year for her birthday, I made my fiancee a LOST mix, with songs chosen in honour of each character. True story!

Aaw, that's so sweet, about the song mix. I do it too for shows I really care about, whether it's putting them into different iTunes playlists or just sitting on a train and going all "hmm, this would fit into [insert character name]"... it just happens.

Tbh, one of my very dream jobs if I could choose to be anything is a music producer for television -- ie, the person that places music into TV shows & such. I know I'll never get it, but hey, one can dream, right?

For "other", I'd love to see some of the songs featured on CSI: Las Vegas and CSI: New York as well as Criminal Minds and Without a Trace. All of those shows have some great music in them, but you never know WHAT they're called. Or almost never. Once in a while I can recognize a band, say, "Oh, that's new, I've not heard that before." and go get it. Though, lol at what you said about the songs being totally inappropriate for when they're being played. Without a Trace is tops for that. I have that "Um... what are doing??" moment almost every time I watch that one when they have music.

That and I'm still annoyed they mispronounced Rainer Maria Rilke's name. Leave it to a word nerd to get irked by something like that. *fails*

Ooh, I thought about making Without A Trace one of the options but stupidly enough never did. But that's some good suggestions, all of which I'll keep in mind. I'll just give the vote a few days and then I'll display the results and how they'll be posted, etc.

And that damned inappropriate!moment thing... man, I was watching this show just a few weeks ago where, in the end, this guy appeared in the doorway with a rifle in his hands, searching for someone -- and they had some awful song with the lyrics "there's a man with a gun" playing in JUST that moment -- things like that represent EPIC!FAIL to me as far as TV shows goes. You don't want the music to literall translate everything that happens on screen; that's what you have eyes for.

Ooh, GRR at those mispronouncing idiods.

I voted for Supernatural and House because those are the only shows in the poll that I watch regularly. I also like Fringe and Lie To Me, but I forgot to enter them under "Other". Out of all of those, I think Supernatural has the best music. Did you see that "Eye of the Tiger" thing?

Also, I adore that icon. Is it shareable? :)

I have to agree with you. Though a personal favourite of mine is Chuck because of how many great, great songs they have in it and acually manage to never misfit a song and always make you really feel it, Supernatural is easily one of the best song-themed shows out there, if not the best. They know their genre and stick to it. They're IMO a great example.

The Eye of the Tiger thing KILLED ME DEAD. Omg, Jensen Ackles, I heart you. That was one of the best "blooper" things I've seen in a long time and from a show ever.

And sure, just go to my userpic profile here and scroll down (or do ctrl+f and search for "shotgun") and snab it from there; I didn't make it, so credit that person listed :)

Supernatural totally wins! And Jensen is hands down awesome! The show totally gave me a new love for a whole genre of music that I always thought was cool but you wouldn't see much on my ipod..Now guess what it's full of? :P

I have to admit that it was a bit of the same for me. I always loved AC/DC, though, but discovering other ones like Bad Company & the suchlike, it's just so GREAT when a show does that to you. Chuck constantly does the same to me, though not a specific genre, but more song gems overall.

I just love getting that feeling. Music is so important for a TV show IMO, it's silly.

Oh, and hI! I'm new! :D

Oh, hi there!

Welcome to the comm, dude! Happy listening & I hope you enjoy your stay :)
Apr. 3rd, 2009 11:13 am (UTC)
Thanks :P I am indeed!

And you're so right! Music is so important to a show...it really is the cause for all the emotions and the like. Supernatural hit the nail on the head, so to speak :P I love getting that feeling you described too!

Definitely. I find that with SPN, they're unique in a way because they don't just play any music out there that's hip & hot, or just the best for the mood -- they choose exclusively from a specific genre, one they've really made their own. It's gone so far that if I hear a song they've used in any other show I'll be all PFFT SO THE WRONG SONG TO USE, SONG = SPN SONG, haha.

I haven't ever watched Chuck-I may have to give it a try over the summer, since I love well-used music in a show. Hmmm.

Sometimes I think Jensen and Jared must be aliens-how is it possible for two human beings to contain so much awesome? Then I realize I've been watching too much X-Files and I feel better.

Yay! *squee* Icon birthday present! *bounces* Thank you!

Ooh, a fellow X-Files fan! Aaw, I was watching a rerun just last night and thinking about how when other people were into things like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, my favourite show was the X-files. What does this mean for our brains, haha?

Oh shit, is it your birthday? If so, congrats!!

*nod* My friend A and I are working our way through it again-we've gotten into Season 6 now (I think we stopped in Season 5 when it was actually airing). We've watched all of Buffy, all of Angel, and the first season of Sliders as well.

It means we are intelligent and have a great interest in the unexplained (and possibly Mulder in a Speedo). :)

Yep, thanks! I turn 30 tomorrow.

I actually did watch X-Files throughout the whole damned thing, but I should have stopped during season 5. From there, it kind of went downhill, without the 'kind of'.

YAY CONGRATS, belatedly! :D
Apr. 12th, 2009 07:38 pm (UTC)
Yeah, it kind of jumped the shark a bit.

Thanks! :)

I'm surprised that so many is voting House -- not because they don't play great music on it, because they do (some devil is so much love) but because I didn't know how active the show's fans were! I'm glad to see it, though. I love the show.

Grey's Anatomy :)

Something tells me I made a bit of a mistake not including Grey's into the actual selection poll...
